"Sue Ferguson is the latest councillor to join Tenterden Town Council having been elected in the May 2013 elections.  Sue and the other 15 councillors represent the residents of the four wards in Tenterden and St Michaels.
Sue was born in Walthamstow and lived in Woodford in Essex until the age of 9 when she moved with her parents to Newcastle upon Tyne. After leaving school Sue took a couple of clerical jobs before undertaking an intensive secretarial course.  In 1977 at the age of 20 she married Bill and they both continued to study for a number of years until Bill had completed his degree in chemistry and MSc in animal nutrition at Newcastle University and later his diploma in Osteopathy, and Sue had qualified as a chiropodist and gained her degree in healthcare practices (podiatry) at Anglia Ruskin University. Sue and Bill arrived in Tenterden in 1985 more by luck than anything else, their house hunting led them to Tenterden, and they stayed and never left! Sue’s parents moved south and joined them in Tenterden in 2001.
When Sue first moved to Tenterden she worked briefly for Ashford Borough Council in the Finance Department, and then while Bill built his osteopathy practice Sue worked in the City of London for various merchant banks so the household bills could be paid. It was in the City that Sue’s interest in finance and new technology started. Once Bill had established his osteopathy practice, Sue left her London jobs and started building up her chiropody practice.
During her 28 years in Tenterden Sue has always had a strong community spirit and over the years has helped several local charities and groups including the RNLI, Tenterden Day Centre, Residents Association, Pilgrims Hospice, Inner Wheel, Tenterden & District Chamber of Commerce, and now has become a Tenterden Town Council councillor. Sue is regularly seen “out on the street” helping at various local events and functions, rattling charity tins, putting up Union Jack bunting, and standing behind “counters”. Sue is never slow to roll up her sleeves and muck in and help.
Sue adores new technology, the Internet, computers and all the latest gadgets, she manages the Tenterden Town website for the benefit of everyone in Tenterden, and is now looking forward to working with the other councillors to make our town the best it can be."
